Introduction
|
In an argument or persuasion paper you are advancing a point about which you feel strongly and seeking to PERSUADE others to agree with you. In order to be successful at accomplishing this, you will need to write effectively.
Begin with a point (your position on the issue). This must be a single sentence, clearly stated, that will guide the rest of the essay in development, support, and organization.
Support the point with SPECIFIC reasons. It is necessary to prove to the reader that your point is sound. Each reason should be followed by examples or details that support them.
Be sure to acknowledge your opposition and then refute their claim.
Conclude with a summary of your argument and your strongest point.
The "task" and "process" links to the left will guide you through the writing of your persuasive piece.
