WebQuest Resources

The 'Resources' section should contain a list of web sites, web pages or other objects that you have found that will help your learners accomplish the task.

All resources should be pre-selected by you, so that learners can focus their attention on the task rather than surfing aimlessly getting thrown from link to link.

Of course, there is nothing wrong with encouraging your learners to search for their own information and this in itself has value as it can be used to develop research skills. However, provide support and guidance on what you want them to search for. If this is a method you wish to use, include within your resources links to appropriate search engines - they are not all the same!

You may wish to think about whether or not you want the learner to record this activity as searching for information on the internet can sometimes be a challenging and time consuming process.

If you are going to build in self directed searching for information, ensure you build this extra time into your lesson plan.

There are two other important factors you really must consider within the resources section:

  1. Not all of your WebQuest resources need to be online. You could use the WebQuest as part of a blended learning activity that also makes use of resources from other locations - maybe the library or other physical location where they are required to find and bring back information - why not get learners to combine the online materials with offline materials.
  2. If using online websites as resources, check them through thoroughly before sending your learners there. It may be that on other pages there is innapropriate material, or links to innapropriate material - this could range from banner and popup adverts, to innapropriate language. The message here is take care!
