WebQuest TasksThe 'Task' section focuses your learners on what they are going to do. Describe crisply and clearly what the end result of the learners' activities will be. Don't list the steps that students will go through to get to the end point - that belongs in the Process section. How do you want the learners to record and present their finished information or findings? Examples could include a:
Below are four examples of real WebQuest tasks. All source links will open in a new window: Source:
Creating
a Community Garden "You are part of
a residents association within a large block of
flats. The flats are all managed through the Local
Authority housing stock. The small communal grounds
to the front comprise mainly grassed areas and a
car park. The flats have
been plagued with a number of problems over the
years. Residents now feel that by improving the
overall look and feel of the outside area will
improve the environment for all residents and help
to instil a sense of pride amongst all residents.
Now all you need
is the support of the Local Authority and a small
grant to help get you started." Source:
Diabetes
Webquest. "It is your
journal, so you can decide how much information you
want to have in it. There is a blank journal
template available on this page for you to
download. Simply click on the link on the right
hand side of this page and click "save" when
prompted. The way you record your information is
entirely up to you, you are free to express
yourself in your own style. To guide you,
there are a number of suggested sections that you
may want to include in your journal. These
suggestions make up the "process" section of this
WebQuest. You do not have to follow these
suggestions, but it is recommended that you include
material on these topics, as they are regarded as
the "core information" that is needed when
compiling information about diabetes. To help you
obtain the information to put into your journal,
the "resources" section of this WebQuest has a
number of high-quality, reliable links that will
provide you with the information you will need. Of
course, you may know someone with diabetes and may
want to include a section on that person's own
experiences. This would give the WebQuest a very
personal feel to it. You may well have
access to your local library, therefore you could
use other types of resource (other than
electronic), such as books, magazines and medical
publications. Source:
Mining
in Staffordshire. "Your task is to
use the Internet to find out about mining history.
As you use the weblinks provided in the resources
section you will search for the anwers to the
following questions: Source:
Gardening
Online - Tree Planting Webquest "So, all you need
to do is choose four trees and plant them. Before
you run off to the local garden centre with a large
wheelbarrow and a pair of sturdy gloves, the
community centre would like you to present them
with a plan. You can provide this in handwritten
format, wordprocessed, as a PowerPoint presentation
or using any other plain or fancy means you wish,
so long as theres paper or computer-based
information for the community centre to look
at. Since
theyve been operating in a bit of a dull
looking wasteland, the community centre users are
not too demanding about what they want.
Theyve come up with a wish list for
you. Please
could we have: Finally, please
dont forget that there is going to be a
vegetable garden in the back. We'd like you to find
out how to plant the trees, and we'll look after
them if you leave us some
instructions. The community
centre has drawn up a rough sketch of where they
would like each of the four trees to be planted.
They would like you to suggest which tree should go
where. You can see that
the back garden is south-facing, so should get
plenty of sun. The dimensions of
the plot are: Ready to move on?
Your next task is to find out about the process by
which you will choose and plant the
trees." |
